The three films I chose to analyse were High school musical, Heathers and Mean Girls as they all have similar settings to my FMP and either are, or were adapted into a musical, like what I'm basing my FMP on.
High School Musical made $252.9 million and, according to rotten tomatoes, has generally positive reviews praising she film's message and overall happy atmosphere with others saying it was too cheesy or saying it doesn't work in a cinema but is great for a TV movie.
All of the posters are very bright and colourful, with the red curtains in the background to look like the curtains from the stage that they perform on, it also shows all of the main characters jumping and smiling showing that this is a light hearted and happy film. Also they made it look like the title of the film is made from Broadway lights to reinforce the fact that it is a musical, like what would be seen on Broadway.
The adverts for High School Musical are very positive and include lots of the singing and the dancing while talking about how it is the "coolest movie of the year" which would interest the children that the movie is aimed to entertain.
Heathers made $1.1 million at the box office and has extremely positive reviews that talk about how, even now, it is still an entertaining film that is quite smart.
All of the posters in Heathers feature the main characters together with a few also including the Heathers but they aren't the main focus of the poster. All of the posters also include a variety of positive reviews as well as putting the names of the actors of the main characters about the title, which is often in pink. Most of the posters also in include a reference to high school in some way, such as having a blackboard in the background.
The trailer for Heathers had quite a dark atmosphere which is similar to the film as the trailer showed several parts of some character's funerals as well as some of the funnier scenes and some of the reviews that people have give the film.
Mean Girls made $130 million at the box office and has tons of positive reviews from critics, praising it's comedy and accuracy but it's audience reviews are a bit mixed as some people think it is too similar to other films to be entertaining.
All of the posters for Mean Girls have the main characters on it, with the protagonist being brought to the front of the poster. In all of the posters the background is plain pink with the title being purple/a darker pink and have the other main characters of the film in the background, all wearing pink. They also include various reviews of the film and have the names of their more well known actors at the top, next to the title.
The trailer for mean girls has a more light hearted theme as it goes over a small about of the story and tells you a bit about all of the characters while showing some of the jokes.
